Sailing the windy waves
Juan ran to the door. He knew who was knocking."Hi, grandpa!" he said." I'm ready." "Are you ready for sailboats and windy waves?" Grandpa asked. "Aye, captain," Juan replied.
Like most Sundays, Grandpa and Juan drove to the harbor. There, they watched sailboats and had a picnic lunch.
One sailboat caught Juan's eye. "I would gladly sail the windy waves in that," he said. Grandpa smiled."Shall we build a model?" "Aye, captain," Juan replied.
“First, let's draw the boat," said Grandpa. They took out paper and colored pencils. Then they looked at the sailboat and drew. "I'll add some windy waves, too,"said Juan.
Later, they carved the sailboat out of wood. Then they painted it. Next, they cut out cloth sails. Juan helped Grandpa attach them to the mast.
"Is our sailboat finished?" asked Juan. "Almost. It still needs ocean waves under it," said Grandpa. "Don't you think?" "Aye, captain," Juan replied. He helped Grandpa stretch the blue clay.
Granpa formed the waves inside a bottle. "The boat goes in next," he said. "It won't fit!" cried Juan. Grandpa smiled as he folded down the mast. Then he gently pushed the boat inside the bottle.
Using long tools, they straightened the mast. "The last step," said grandpa, "is sealing the bottle. Ready?"
"Aye, captain," replied Juan, "after I do this." He blew a puff of air into the bottle. "Every boat needs wind for sailing," said Juan. Grandpa smiled.
