Think Before You Leap!

Inthe 21st century, the information technology has become extremely advanced andwe receive large amounts of information everyday, which cannot be distinguishedas true or false. Living in such an age of information explosion, we shouldinsist on the principles contained in the proverb “think before you leap” andreconsider the things seen or heard before we hurry to make conclusions.

There is much misleading information today. For example, it was reported several days ago that doctors in the operatingroom took photos with big smiles on their faces and behind them was a patientlying in the sickbed, making the public perceive all of them neglected theirduties. However, instantly another report appeared and showed the reason of thedoctors’ taking the photo was that they had succeeded in performing theoperation on the patient lying in the sickbed. Then all the condemnation of thepublic stopped and some people began to praise them. What a dramatic thing!

Inthe information age, confronted with various kinds of information, we shouldnot trust whatever we have seen or heard, or we would become blind and unwise. All of us should develop the ability to judge right from wrong.

Do Not Put All Your Eggs in One Basket!

There is an old saying: “Do not put all youreggs in one basket.” Different people have different opinions on this issue. The supporters think that such practice as putting eggs in more than one basketreduces the loss caused by failure, while the opponents regard this asimpenetrable since it disperses one’s energy which would definitely lower thechance of success. As far as I’m concerned, it is unwise to put all your eggsin one basket.

Recently, the stock market has beenexperiencing a period of downturn and many stock investors are brokenheartedsince most of them have devoted almost all of their money in stock investmentand now the loss of their stock means the sharp decrease of their property. However, those who invest in not only the stock market but also many otherfields, such as the real estate, catering, tourism, etc., need not stare at thestock chart every second and they can make up for their economic damage fromthese investment.

Fromthe example of the investment in stock markets, it is not difficult to seewhich choice is better. So, you should put all your eggs in more than onebasket.

Directions: For this part, you are allowed30 minutes to write an essay explaining why it is unwise to judge a person bytheir appearance. You can give examples to illustrate your point. You shouldwrite at least 150 words but no more than 200 words.

Do Not Judge a Person by Their Appearance!

As aman cannot be known by his looks, neither can the sea be fathomed by a gourd, which is a truth that we have been taught since we were children. However, somepeople argue that the appearance is the inner reflection of a person, so it isconvincing to judge a person by their appearance. Is it really true?

Ihave to say that the appearance includes one’s physiognomy, speech anddeportment, and even hairstyle and dressing, most of which can be changedaccording to different situations. A so-called bad guy can pretend to begracious and solicitous when it concerns his benefit, such as a traitor of acountry who sells state secrets to other countries. A good guy can behave crueland iron-hearted when it is necessary so as to protect people besides him, justlike an undercover from the police among the gangsters. I promise that thefirst time people see the two guys, they cannot distinguish the true identityof them, not to mention judge them as good or bad accurately.

Above all, I don’t think it is wise to judgepeople by their appearance, for it can be disguised and people would alwaysmake mistakes if they follow this principle. People should observe others withtheir hearts.
